Honda Cars of Katy made buying my first car, a Honda Cr-V an Easy Process

Just about a year ago, I knew the time was coming to search for a new vehicle. It would be my first time as the owner of a car, despite having paid for every car I owned since I was 16. Being a very simple person, my car had to have two things: an iPod outlet and a sunroof. Why would anybody want a sunroof in hot Houston, you ask? Seven years prior, I was forced to pick out the car without the sunroof since my parent’s knew I wouldn’t be able to afford the higher model with my lifeguard and waitress, high school student salary.

 

In April of last year, I traveled to La Grange with a friend to volunteer at the MS150 in her Honda cr-v. I immediately fell in love. It was so spacious, the stereo system was perfect for jammin’ out to Ke$ha on that trip, and even the center console flipped down to store her purse. After that day, I couldn’t stop thinking of how much her Honda Cr-v resembled a luxury vehicle. Nobody in my family has ever owned a Honda, though my dad had a short stint working at a Honda dealership years ago. I was determined that someday soon I, too, would be the proud owner of a Cr-v.

 

After months of searching and receiving annoying phone calls and emails from what seemed to be every dealership in Houston, I came across Honda Cars of Katy on an internet search. I was little weary since the drive was far away from my midtown apartment, but I decided to give it a whirl. After the first visit with Isaiah, I knew this was my dealership. After a few weeks of wheeling and dealing, I finally purchased my first ever Honda on June 19, 2010. Honda Cars of Katy had so many colors in stock of the 2010 Honda cr-v, it was like being in a shoe store and trying to pick the color of heels that fits your style most. I was very happy with my glacier blue pick. I was fortunate to have a stress-free day- complete with a free sandwhich and my salesman asking if I thought the sales manager was good looking. The best part? I did not even need my Dad’s help! Isaiah and the whole sales team made the process so easy, even an Aggie could buy a car from Honda Cars of Katy.

 

Eight months later, I love everything about my Honda. I love how spacious my CR-V is, something that has come in handy during road trips. Though I take the METRO light rail to work every day, my Honda is the perfect weekend getaway car. It has enough room to tote both my friends and luggage to party in Austin. Though I love my friends and family, my dream road trip would be with my favorite actor Adam Sandler to visit his hometown of Brooklyn. I mean, he can always fly to Houston from LA and we’ll travel all the way to the east coast and up to Brooklyn, sight seeing along the way. What could make a better vacation? I’ll even let his wife and kids tag along since the cr-v is so roomy!

 

As a Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, having a safe vehicle is extremely important. I was not confident in driving my little sister to the zoo or the movies for our outings in my old car. Now, her mother and I both rest assured the Honda cr-v is top of the class in safety ratings. I now know that when I grow up, get married, and have children, I will definitely have Honda to keep my family safe. Maybe by that time, I’ll move up to the Honda Pilot to have more room for the little rascals.

 

 

Going Honda was a great decision. Driving away in a Honda from Honda Cars of Katy was an even better decision.

 

Installing a Child Safety Seat the Right Way

At Honda Cars of Katy, we provide to you the resources you need in order to make driving with you and your family as safe as possible. Child Saftey, is of utmost importance, and child safety seat installation is something that we all need to know about.  Please read on, and know the proper techniques! Happy reading!

If you grew up in the 60s, 70s or 80s, chances are you never had a child seat (or maybe never even used seat belts) and your parents never gave it a second thought.

Now child car seats are a part of everyday life, and installing the seat into their new Honda Accord can be difficult.  It doesn’t help matters that there’s no standardized way to mount them – each brand is different.

That trepidation and worry is well-founded – the NTHSA has found that as many as 80 percent of child safety seats are improperly installed and used and that poor installation can be a contributing factor to many traffic fatalities in children under 14.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

• Getting a proper fit between car seat and vehicle seat is essential, and usually tricky.  Some vehicles have automatic locking retractors (ALR), emergency locking retractors (ELR) or retractors that can work either way.  The seat cushions’ shape and size can make a big difference, as can the huge variety of shapes and sizes of child safety seats.
• The federal government has stepped in to set a standard, with new car seats and post-2002 vehicles featuring LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children).  The LATCH attachment can be rigid or flexible, and negates the need for using seatbelts to anchor the seat.
• Regardless of what brand of seat you get or how it’s supposed to install, make certain that it’s the proper seat for your child’s age, weight and height.  This is crucial!
• Remember that the safest place for a car seat is always in the rear seat.  Post-2008 models will have a shoulder strap for the middle rear seat position, so keep that in mind when installing.
• More than anything else – read both the car’s owner’s manual and the child seat manual carefully, and follow their instructions. If you still have questions, call your new Honda dealership in Houston and ask them.

Infant seats and toddler seats will typically have different designs and different mounting procedures.  Follow their instructions to the letter!  Then, after the seat is installed, grab the seat and try to move it.  It shouldn’t  move more than an inch from side to side or front to back.  If you’re still not sure, feel free to call your Honda dealership, or consult the NHTSA’s Child Passenger Safety or National Safe Kids Campaign websites.
